The Proposal
Julie's birthday was in October. Julie's parent's arranged to have Gloria fly from Virginia in for the weekend. We were headed to a social engagement Thursday night which took us by the airport. I told Julie that we needed to swing into the airport to pick up a present that her father had arranged to have flown in special for her. She told me later that she was expecting to see Gloria, and would have cried if it wasn't Gloria. We pulled up to arriving flight, and Gloria stood there with a big bow on her head, a gift tag from her parents.... and Julie cried anyway. We had a wonderful evening with some close friends, and no one knew what was coming the following day.
On Friday, Julie's younger daughter Vanessa joined us from Melbourne for dinner. I took a camera along with us, under the guise that we didn't have any photos of the 4 of us. After dinner, I had my girls get situated for a photo, and I asked the waiter to take it for us. With my back to the girls, I handed my little camera that also takes videos to the waiter and told him to just point it at us, as I was going over to propose. I ran around the table and got on one knee. The video turned out very dark, and I lightened it as much as I could. You can see Julie's mouth open (I think she was trying to catch flies) for 20 seconds, and you can her Gloria scream "It's about time, you ass!" (or something like that) off-camera. Julie finally said "Yes".
